An Open Alternative to Youtube

This is an interesting option if you’re tired of your hard work becoming Google’s property for all intents and purposes.

There are some great Pros, but I can also see some real Cons to a federated peering system with zero oversight.

The cool part is that you create and host your own content, and you don’t give up control to someone else, much less profitability, if that’s what you’re after.

The issue I can foresee is the misuse of such software for those who would share hate. Hate-speech, while protected as speech, just isn’t okay. It’s an unfortunate thing that anyone feels the need to hate anyone, or anything else in the world, much that anyone should be subjected to it.

That said, I’ve yet to try out Peertube, but I’m looking forward to it, and hope it is as cool as it has the potential to be.
